Reducing eye strain
This is a fact that is well-known: nowadays we do more things that can damage our eyesight than we used to in the past. Technology is the main reason. We spend a lot of our time in front of the PC or laptop, using our Smartphone, watching TV, reading in artificial light. There is also more pollution, things that can cause allergies, the sun seems to burn more, and our activities seem to be more stressful.
All these lead, at first, to one main thing, amongst other: eye strain. It is easy to figure it out why – because, basically, almost everything you look at causes eye strain. The symptoms of eye strain are well-known, and we have all experienced them by now: headaches, dizziness, blurred vision.
There is one problem with us humans, which seems to be at the basis of all bad: we tend not to realize that we do not work like a machine to which you can always or anytime change parts. We have one brain, one heart, two lungs, two kidneys and … two eyes. But we do not treat any of these as being unique. We do not keep them as healthy as we should.
We are, however, a bit lucky, if looking from a rather optimistic point of view: when it comes to choosing what treatment to use, we have plenty to choose from. We also have lots of natural treatments at our disposal. So start showing your eyes some respect that they are important to you
One first advice would be to browse at the local health food store for something called “eyebright”. This is a sort of herb that is very good for the eyes. Just boil some water and place a couple of teaspoons of the herb into the water to steep. Keep it in the hot water for about fifteen minutes, strain the herb from the liquid and let it cool. Soak a soft cloth in the liquid and put it on your eyes.
Another way to relax your eyes and rid of the eye strain is to do the same thing explained above with, but with some soft cloth and hazel. This is a very efficient remedy for very tired eyes.
You can also use dried chamomile flowers. Put a teaspoon of the thing in a cup of boiling water. This plant contains an anti-spasmodic substance that is very good for your eyes. If you do not find the actual plant, a tea bag of chamomile would work just fine to improve eyesight.
Another very helpful method to relax your eyes is the simple, classic cold water technique: splash your eyes with cold water. This will boost blood supply to the eye muscles, making them feel refreshed.
You should also strengthen your eyes by eating lots of food that contains Vitamin A. Some examples of foods rich in Vitamin A are lettuces, tomatoes, spinach, carrots and cabbage.
